Readers, it appears the scoreboard is in need of another update:

Broken Hartz – 3

Hartz Mountain Corporation – 0

The page is now populated with excellent BH content but, we’ll always have the screenshot below to enjoy Hartz Mountain Corporation’s shame!

Here's what happens when you mess with Broken Hartz! This page has now been populated with all things BH but, thanks to this screenshot, we'll always be able to have a good laugh at Hartz.

Broken Hartz wishes to thank all those who have helped our mission. We love our Twitter Followers, led by our tenacious #BHambassador.

Every time our #BHwarriors speak up, we watch our blog views rise.

Our message would never have spread as far or as fast without your support.

Broken Hartz is humbled by the level of devotion you have shown to the mission but, to be fair, our #BHwarriors haven’t done all the work.

Your criminal acts continue to amplify our message, Hartz.

Your attempts to silence us have forced internet giants Twitter and Facebook, as well as the quickly-growing Pinterest, to listen to our message. Their collective response of support shows the tide is turning.

You are a monster, Hartz, and we have already addressed how you will be dealt with.

Broken Hartz does not speak in hyperbole.

Our goal to shut down the multi-billion dollar beast that is Hartz Mountain Corporation is bold but, together with the public, we will achieve it.

Make no mistake.

Great work! Thanks for everything you are doing–you aren’t alone and more will join you. The truth is getting out and it’s beginning to hurt this company that has had such a disdain for consumers and their companion animals. You are an inspiration–thanks for the great communication and for telling the truth. – Rich.

We are overjoyed to make your acquaintance, Rich!

High praise coming from one such as you, who has inspired us to always press on, leaves our little group speechless.

      Well… almost speechless.

We speak of you often as a Broken Hartz Hero and have always known you were still out there. We knew, one day, you would find us and announce your presence. After all, if anyone knows how to leave a comment on a website, it’s you!

Broken Hartz knows much of you and, we imagine, you have already begun to know much of us.

Thank you again for your praise, though we feel it is misplaced. You have done immense good for the cause over years.

It is us who should be praising you.

The truth is all we need and we look forward to joining with you in order to continue spreading it.

Thanks for your nice comments. Most importantly, thank you and congratulations for the work you are doing.

The truth is our best ally. You have posted very detailed, factual information that adds depth, substance and credibility to your work. This is precisely what frightens Hartz Mountain. They will do whatever it takes to supress the information you are making available.

Oh, yes, they’ll intimidate (at least attempt to) and threaten. If you haven’t yet heard from their legal department you will. I could give you a long list of individuals and organizations they’ve threatened with legal action, including me, KNBC Los Angeles, The Miami Herald (directed at their columninst, Dr. Patty Kuhly), the Center for Public Integrity, Beyond Pesticides, and more. They have a long history of these kind of tactics.

This is not an easy road. The EPA, possibly the most lax oversight organization in the federal government, has been very reticent to take significant action, even when the facts clearly demonstrate the need. The one exception was in 2005, when the EPA issued a Cancellation Order for Hartz’s flea and tick products for cats and kittens containing the ingredient, phenothrin. Additionally, the major retailers are very hesitant to take a leadership role, with Rite-Aid and PetSmart among the worst–both have corporate cultures that are completely unresponsive to the truth regarding these products. Additionally, the ASPCA, an organization that does some wonderful work in many areas supporting companion animals, has completely abdicated their responsibility of objectivity, transparency and honesty in the relationship they’ve established through their consulting services organization with Hartz and other product manufacturers. Their vice-president, Dr. Steven Hanson, established a relationship a few years ago that is a clear conflict of interest at best and could possibly be even worse…all in an attempt to generate revenue at the expense of what’s best for animals and pet-owners. This is an appalling relationship and Dr. Hanson and the ASPCA should be ashamed of themselves.

In spite of all these obstacles, and many more, the truth is making an impact. Because of people like you at Broken Hartz, James TerBush at BioSpot Victims.org and Josh and Dani at HartzVictims.org, Tiny Timmy’s and Oliver’s parents, along with many individuals who care, veterinarians of conscience, and other animal advocates, progress is being made. I think the tide has finally turned and although it may take a few more years, companies like Hartz are either going out of business or will be forced to change their corporate culture. Can you imagine how embarrassing and humiliating it must be to work for a company like Hartz Mountain? Their history is absolutely unbelievable when you look at the facts of their deplorable impact on companion animals and families–emotional and financial. It’s an appalling record.

Yes, the tide is turning. Momentum and the truth is on our side. The impact you’ve made in a short time is significant–very positive. Thank you for taking some risks, for being subjected to lies, obfuscation and intimidation. Thanks for the time and resources you are expending. Brace yourself for some difficult days ahead. There are also many victories in your future and many happy celebrations. We’ll win…the truth is on our side. Our animal friends and many wonderful families deserve our support. All the best to you.
